SoundManager Incompatibilities
The new Apple SoundManager has some incompatabilities with SoundMaster, the shareware Control Panel that lets you assign sounds to System events such as emptying the trash or shutting down. SoundMaster programmer B. Tomlin confirmed the conflict after I e-mailed him about what wads happening to me. The word is do not use SoundManager 3.0 unless you have to, which is unlikely.
Mr. Tomlin did not say whether he was planning a fix, but I suspect he will have to or we will all be swimming upstream. The problem is not serious on my machines, so I will leave things pretty much alone. My startup sound will not play. Mr. Tomlin reports that the change came about in the way the new SoundManager 3.0 handles the volume control, which is different.
